Estate Escapes - 2011 so far...

Many months have zoomed by since we last updated you with our news. We've so much to report, it is difficult to know where to begin...

Estate Escapes was nominated for three tourism awards earlier in the year and you may be wondering what the outcome was? In March we were shortlisted for two REYTAs (Best Newcomer in Tourism and Best Self-Catering categories). Just in case you are wondering, a REYTA is a Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Award. The night itself was a great showcase for local tourism businesses and despite not making it over the final hurdle, we had a fantastic evening eating delicious locally produced food in the very splendid Bridlington Spa great hall. (Stunning by the way).

More recently, we failed to clinch the title in the Welcome To Yorkshire annual tourism awards held at Doncaster Racecourse. There were over a thousand people at this most prestigious of awards and we were really hoping we had a good chance. Welcome To Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Tourist Board (that was) are a feisty, forward-thinking bunch of people who are pulling out all the stops to put Yorkshire on the map not just in the UK but globally, so it is a fantastic opportunity to rub shoulders with the great and the good of the tourism world at these types of events. You never know who you might meet or what tips they may have to improve the business.

Sadly, at both awards we lost out to self-catering seaview appartments , one in Bridlington and one in Scarborough. Congratulations should go to the winners. Onwards and upwards...

Spring was absolutely stunning in Hotham and the cottages were very busy. We had some fantastic feedback from guests again. All couldn't believe how fantastic the weather was or how beautiful our holiday cottages are. One guest had tears in her eyes on arrival, she was so overjoyed with Stracey Cottage. That means the world to us, reactions don't get better than that.

This year we had lots of fresh herbs on Stracey and Clitherow Cottage patios for guests to use if they were rustling up a fantastic dish in the kitchen. And, the garden really came on this summer with beautiful pots and flowering troughs.

Over the summer, the cottages featured in different interior design magazines: Style at Home, Your Home and
The Journal. Never thought of myself as an interior designer but the feedback I've had on the way I've decorated and furnished the holiday cottages has been remarkably positive. There may be more projects in the pipeline...?

But the biggest news this year so far has been that we decided that we needed to update the website. So, with the help of some fantastic guys down the road - Classlane Media - we have created a new site (which we are still tweaking a little bit) and we've filled it with lots of new images as well as film. Please visit the site and give us your thoughts www.estateescapes.co.uk or visit You Tube and look up Estate Escapes. We are thrilled with the new look at hope you find it gorgeous to look at and easy to use.

Holiday Tips From Estate Escapes

The Yorkshire region offers expansive and beautiful countryside and a wide variety of attractions.

Wilberforce House is the birthplace of William Wilberforce, famous campaigner against the slave trade. Admission to Wilberforce House is free. The museum tells the story of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and its abolition, as well as the impact of contemporary slavery, offering a fascinating glimpse into West African culture.

The permanent displays at Wilberforce House include journals and items that belonged to William Wilberforce, including his court suit. There are many significant items linked to slavery and the campaign to abolish, like the Brookes ship model.

Five Stars Award to Estate Escapes

Christian and Victoria Carver are delighted to announce that the first two cottages in the Estate Escapes collection have been awarded Five stars by Visit England.

Based in Hotham in East Yorkshire, Stracey and Clitherow Cottages have been lovingly restored and decorated to create a comfortable and luxurious living space for guests.

"We are thrilled that all the hard work and effort has paid off and that Visit England found the cottages to be ‘very well presented cottages offering comfortable and well-appointed accommodation located in a tranquil village setting on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds’. We can't wait for guests to enjoy the cottages and judge for themselves."

The cottages are now available for short breaks, weekly and corporate lets.

Spring News

The sunshine has finally arrived in Hotham and the past few days have been glorious. It's delightful to see the daffodils flowering in the village after the sensational snowdrops this year! This week we've also seen our first tulips of the season, hoorah!

We've recently teamed up with a fantastic new catering business, 'Delicious Memories' as we wanted to offer our guests even more options if they choose to dine in. Guests can now order a Traditional Yorkshire Afternoon Tea or High Tea to be prepared for them at the cottages either for their arrival or on any day during their stay. Delicious Memories will also cater for dinner parties at the cottages so if you're planning a celebration and would like to book both cottages for the occasion, why not think about having your dinner prepared for you. The highlight is that you can have waiting service too and you won't have to do the washing up afterwards! A unique and memorable experience.

Talking of food, we still work closely with Jill Kellock too. She's very well known in the East Riding and is a highly-skilled cake maker among other things so if you're planning a special treat for a friend or loved one, why not contact her to make a celebration cake for you. Jill also cooks delicious suppers to go. She'll drop them off at the cottages and either leave them fresh for that day or pop them in the freezer for you.

Having opened in June last year, we haven't had much time to create the perfect English Country Cottage garden for our guests, it is very pretty now, but we want to make it special. So, now Spring is here, we are working on improving the main bed and planting creepers. As per last year guests who like cooking will be able to use the fresh herbs we plant in pots on the patio.

We are working on offering breaks with a theme so keep logging onto our website for an update in the coming weeks.

And finally, we've updated our price list for Spring 2011, please see the website for details and we hope to hear from you soon.
